Day 234 by ErinBird Day 234 by ErinBird
Name : Illegal photoshop ~ 234.366

I heard this off Tumblr and .. I really love it . I've made a lot of photo's with the description talking about how society distorts the image of beauty , so I feel a bit tired if I go over it again .
But this statement is so true . Steroids makes athletes better in a cheating way , making them not themselves to cross the finish line .. but ever since they made it illegal , sport came something that was true . On the other hand , photoshop ? All these fake models in magazines that are so editted it's just shocking .

I wanted to use a back ground full of photoshopped models to put an emphesis on how much photoshop is used in our lives . And it's not always for the best .

Couldn't have said it better! It's as if we take sports more seriously than young girl's self esteems.

Sometimes a little touch-up is nice. Get rid of a blemish, or fix a weird shadow. Once, though, I found a picture of a model that was so weird, but I couldn't put my finger on why. So I stared at it for a while to figure it out. They airbrushed her knees to the point she didn't have any! I found that hilariously over-the-top.

Just as make-ups and plastic surgery...? : ) From the legal point of view, banning can be just a contract in which you state you're not using e.g. steroids, agree to undergo tests, and accept disqualification in case of a breach of contract. When it comes to photoshop - neither model nor publisher owns viewing person's opinion, her/his thoughts - it's our responsibility to shape opinion through persuasion and voting out what we don't like by withdrawing our interest and money in such companies. As long as there is no coercion on either side and it's truly voluntary - everyone gains.

Most models are pretty born anyways. It just fakes the -product- not the beautiful human. It says: Buy this cream and you'll look beautiful! Even if your nose is a huge potato."
But the photoshop actually just do's the lightning, burs a few wrinkles .. which everyone knows. but.. maybe we should actually sell things more with ,love'-pictures, less with this ,cold' and threatening ,perfection' doctrine.

Cool photo!

ultra skinny models are rly something that sucks so much.
Especially because the Scumbag designers & label bosses - want - them, who are women like everyone else- be so skinny that they have to hunger all the time.
I think that's a double sin, for the girls who look up to those fake icons and for the models as well. Bankrupt without love.

Very very good point, but most people just listen to what the media tells them. As someone who has experimented with steroids, I can say that they are safe IF taken correctly*

Driving is dangerous too, if done incorrectly.

I understand it entirely, but Steroids cause death.
However, if that really was the reason, would we have cigarettes sitting on our shelves?

True , but a lot more people smoke and are addicted to cigarettes . I know they're very bad , but this talk from the government was going on saying they'd love to take away cigarettes , but they can't because it'd cause an uproar from the public .. and also because the government make money from selling it ¬.¬

**Sets up scale**

Health of the human race on one side, enough money to stabilize a made up economy, a system we created...
one of those sides just went flying into the skies because the other was so heavily important.

Steroids are illegal due to the side effects (Aggression, tiny dicks, I dunno. I'm a dumb-shit american teenager) Photoshop is just deceptive. If photoshop should be illegal for models, shouldn't stunt-doubles be illegal for actors?

Ahh that's a good point (: However , photoshop may not harm the model , but it may harm the people who see it . A lot of teen girls gets drpressed that they can't look like the models . Some teens even go bulimic to look as thin as them . Shouldn't something that affects a lot of people be banned ?

I dunno. I believe that freedom of speech is important too. Un-realistic models can be depressing, but (No offence to suicide "victims") if someone commits suicide due to a magazine cover, they were probably going to take the plunge anyway.

Not true, photoshop is more compareble to food, air or water. Since you cant even display or print the photos without retouching them. The Raw material is pointless with out editing, just like your eyes/brain needs to do some editing. However i know what you´re talking about, but you said it the wrong way.

I see your point, but both sides are flawed.

I personally do not enjoy the world of organized sports because at some point, you are being restricted by the body you genetically own. What's to say that an athlete can get surgery to fix a deviated septum; this wouldn't be considered "steroids" yet the athlete is unnaturally increasing the rate of oxygen that he can take breathe. The athlete can eat special foods, protein shakes, and pain medication for training, all of which are oral body stimulants but not considered "steroids". At some point (perhaps not yet) the anti-steroids will be a fine line to walk. People can actually physically explain why Phelps is such a great swimmer; his long arm reach, dinner-place hands, unnaturally long torso, and short legs create a perfect swimmer. And you say that since steroids were made illegal, the sport became true? This is false to the ends of the earth. There is no true sport because nothing can be truly compared to the other. Oh, lets make a sport! Who ever swims in a strict controlled fashion and in no other fashion the fastest will win the title! Oh you have a ball? Lets move the ball down a field into a specified area in a strict controlled manner with an equal number of people! Whichever side gets their ball in the area the most wins the title! What a waste of time.

On the other side, photography, modeling, and high fashion is what it is. "High" fashion. Even high enough to be unattainable. It's the unattainable beauty that makes it attractive. Granted, there are many naturally beautiful women and men that do not need photoshop, maybe they only a great camera man and equipment. Then, should we put a ban on high-resolution cameras? Should be ban reflectors and artificial light sources? What about unnatural green screen backgrounds? All of these are unnatural and the person is highly unlikely to look the way they do in a photo without it. In this case, where would the art be? You even use software to edit your quote: Software:Embettered by PicMonkey. [link] . Does your editing seem to enhance the quote?
Does your quote seem to connect more with a viewer because of your editing? For me, a quote of words needs no image, no photoediting, no colors, just text. At this point, you can notice that people clearly have different levels of perception.

I fear that images like these only seem to continue to embitter people against the greatness that is photoediting.

Fair enough (: I must say you have a very good argument here and I enjoyed reading your comment . It is true that photo editting is very useful , but I think it crosses a line when you edit models to make them look amazing beyong perfection . Anyway , very good comment and thank you for having the time to write it (:
