"Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it" - JK Rowling, Harry Potter and TGOF

When something bad happens, and you feel sad or angry, don't try and push those feelings away. The worst thing ever is to act numb to the pain because once you let yourself feel a little bit, all that time you tried to ignore those emotions will come flooding in and hurt you so badly. If you're sad, let yourself be sad. Cry or scream if you want. It's better to let yourself be sad then and get over it as soon as possible then have it build up inside of you. If you've just been dumped, lost someone close by death or just got a bad grade - just allow yourself to feel whatever emotion that comes to you.

Isn't that the truth I've said that in my mind a thousand times,  but at the same time if you block things out for to long you get entropy! Then nothing holds any meaning That takes years to recover from, its so much worse been there!

I'd rather let the dentist just do their thing and make me numb.

This speaks to me like you wouldn't believe; I'm a recovering drug addict, and if I could tell using addicts one thing, it'd be this.  The momentary numbness only masks the huge heavy hitter that's coming when the high wears off.

I've been sober for almost nineteen months now.  I really needed to see this quote today, I had a minor craving due to stress, but this is a potent reminder of why it's so crucial to stay sober and deal with your issues in a healthy manner.

'Cause it's the only way to do it.

God love you, my Friend.  I do.  Thank you for this.

Thank you for your kind words, my Friend.  I am delighted to be nearly nineteen months sober.  (It'll be official on June 10th, 2014.  I even know the exact hour -  8:08PM!)

It's so good of you to say this; it's a hard thing to say and an even harder one to accept, but you pulled this off beautifully without being preachy.  This is a message people will listen to because it is on our level, you aren't talking down to us from a morally higher position.  And it's just...  touching.  Because for those of us who have been there, we know how that picture feels.  I do.

God bless you for the good you do with your art.  May God love you like I do.
